The truth about Hussein's UN prohibited weapons
by Jim Babka
Did Hussein get some of his chemical and biological weapons from our government? The answer is yes.
- Between 1985 and 1988 our government shipped both chemical and biological weapons to Hussein.
- This was after he had invaded his neighbor, Iran, and after he had supposedly gassed the Kurds. (For the truth about the Kurdish story see The truth about Hussein's brutality.)
continued below…
- The story of our exporting chemical and biological weapons to Hussein has been reported by both conservative columnist Robert Novak and Newsweek magazine. (See foi.missouri.edu/terrorbkgd/following.html.)
- The full story, according to Novak, is based on Senate Banking Committee documents from May 25, 1994.
Novak reports that…
"In 1985 (five years after the Iraq-Iran war started) and succeeding years, said the report, 'pathogenic (meaning 'disease producing'), toxigenic (meaning 'poisonous') and other biological research materials were exported to Iraq, pursuant to application and licensing by the U.S. Department of Commerce." It added: "These exported biological materials were not attenuated or weakened and were capable of reproduction."
So once again, we find lies, hypocrisy, and complicity on the part of our own political leaders. Everywhere we look the story is the same…
- Hussein must be removed because he's a brutal dictator, but our own politicians have been complicit in his brutality. (See The truth about Hussein's brutality.)
- Hussein must be removed because he's violated international law, but our own politicians have aided him in violating international law. (See The truth about violation's of international law.)
- Hussein must be removed because he has invaded his neighbors, but our own politicians have encouraged, supported, or been complicit in these invasions. (See Claim#4 and Claim #6.)
- And now, when we examine the claim that Hussein must be removed because he has chemical and biological weapons, we find that our own politicians have given him some of those weapons.
- Worse still, they did this after he had used similar weapons to invade his neighbor, and after he had supposedly used similar weapons to gas his own people.
Can any reasonable person claim that our political leaders have any credibility left? And if so, on what basis? We have already shown in Claim #4, Claim #5, and Claim #6, that many of the people who are proposing war against Iraq now, have lied about the justifications for war before.
And we have also shown, in Claim #1 and Claim #2 that there is no valid reason to fear…
- That Hussein has significant arsenals of chemical and biological weapons now,
- Or that he could harm us with them if he did,
- Or that there is any reason to believe he would give them to terrorists if he did have them.
There is no justification for war with Iraq.
